{Real Event} AFR's "The Blueprint:" Behind-the-scenes Production

We were so thrilled to sponsor the VIP invitations for AFR Event Furnishing‘s annual networking event this year!  AFR has a long tradition of super creative and mind-blowing events that start with innovative and out-of-the-box invitations.  We were totally up for the challenge!

Because this project was so much fun, we wanted to invite you for a behind-the-scenes look at production.  Here are some fun action shots and the work that resulted!

The theme for this year’s networker was “The Blueprint: Furniture Exposed.”  When we sat down with AFR to discuss what they wanted to do for this year’s invitation, they had loads of ideas and inspiration.  Some of the stand-out ideas that really seemed to fit the bill for the theme were kraft-colored mailing tubes with the invitation rolled inside, miniature tables that somewhat resembled AFR’s Mon accent tables, and “blueprint”-style drawings of furniture.  Rather than choose just one idea, we opted to create a boxed invitation that combined all these super cute ideas for a knock-your-socks off presentation!

To start, we watercolor-washed a standard mailing box to give it a streaky blue color.  Custom labels were applied to the box top containing the event logo (created by AFR’s in-house marketing team and used throughout the invitation) and the invited guests’ names.

Next, we assembled and painted mini “tables” in three of the six colors in which the Mon tables can be rented – teal, rose, and lime.  Our “in-house engineer” and CAD expert (my husband Daniel) then created CAD drawings of those tables for use as a wallpaper that we applied to the inside of the box.  We added some appropriate creative flourishes to the wallpaper and developed a custom-printed lift pad for the base, with cutouts for each of the items included in the box: the mini painted table, a mini kraft-colored mailing tube with invitation rolled inside, and a “You are invited” tent card to stand on the table.  The lift pads were inserted and attached inside each of the assembled boxes.

We created the mini kraft-colored mailing tubes by covering clear plastic tubes with kraft paper.  The invitation, printed on Bright White, was rolled inside and a printed arrow encouraged the invitation’s removal.  Each invitation was personalized with the invited guests’ names, and the mailing tube contained a teeny-tiny label, also printed with the guests’ name or company name.  The mailing tube was then tied onto the lift pad using a thin white satin ribbon bow so it stayed in place during transit.

To ensure the invitations were interactive and to encourage guests to “play” with the tables and perhaps even display them in their workspace, we designed a small tent card with “You are invited” and AFR’s logo to be removed from the box and set up on the table.  The table colors were randomly assigned to guests so everyone received a fun surprise.

We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to show off our studio’s in-house capabilities with this project and to be involved in such an amazingly outstanding event!  Thank you AFR for allowing us to create these invitations for you!  Hope we can do it again soon!

Chris and Josh’s incredible wedding at Aloft Orlando Downtown was full of colorful celebration. Captured through the lens of Lauren Watai Photography, their special day included plenty of fun colors, happy family and friends, and lots and lots of dancing! We were so excited to create the invitations and paper goods for this sweet couple, who had traveled to upstate New York a couple weeks prior to their Orlando wedding celebration for their marriage license.

When I first met Chris and Josh, they told me they chose Aloft for its mid-century modern, “Mad Men” style, and they wanted their wedding style to reflect the style of the venue.  So I asked Chris and Josh to walk me through Aloft and show me some of the decor that thrilled them most.  In that meeting, we decided to use electric blue, magenta, and chartreuse, with an addition of a dark blue to balance the brights.  They loved the patterns and textures used throughout the venue as well – yellowed woods, charcoal wools, and colorful abstract shapes.  To reflect these elements, we kept the paper goods clean but modern, and incorporated contrasting textures into the layers of the invitation.

We printed their invitation on matte white and layered it onto wood veneer that had been custom-stained for them.  The backing was created with charcoal wool fabric to create thickness and texture.  Their invitation was created in a large A9 size to make the most of their textures, and it created a breathtaking and unique presentation.

For their day-of papers, we used their custom monogram from their invitation for a cohesive look. We created food and drink signs for the buffet and the bar, and favor tags on wooden sticks. Chris and Josh chose succulent plants in mini galvanized pots as their favors, and Greenery Productions styled their showstopping favor table.

The rest of the decor was equally bright and graphic. We loved the chevron-patterned cake dotted with succulents, by Party Flavors Custom Cakes, which coordinated perfectly with the chevron linens on the favor table. Greenery Productions‘ floral work included the grooms’ boldly colored boutonnieres and gorgeous ceremony flowers in vivid purple, blue, and green.

We were so honored to be a part of this beautiful and touching wedding! Thank you to these awesome vendors for helping to make Chris and Josh’s wedding dreams come true:

When we first met with Mackenzie, Billy, their adorable brand-new puppy Buddy (who is now probably bigger than me!), and Mackenzie’s mom, we knew this was going to be a super fun wedding!  Mackenzie loved whimsical scripts and chalkboard-style layouts, with shabby chic florals, heart-and-arrow motifs, and soft mint, peach, blush, and coral.  We started by creating and mailing their photo save-the-date, using their gorgeous engagement photo by super-talented Best Photography, and then followed several months later with their wedding invitations.

Their wedding invitation used a custom presentation of a landscape-orientation folder in slate gray, with the invitation mounted on the front.  We used layers of mint and custom pinstripes to add whimsy and depth, and created a custom heart-and-arrow monogram as part of their wedding branding that we used across their day-of papers, signage and even on the dessert buffet tags.  Once the invitation folder was opened, a wide lace enclosure band affixed with a custom monogram plate contained their response enclosure, and an information panel was permanently attached to the inside of the folder.  Since Mackenzie and Billy had two wedding ceremonies in which different guests were invited to each, we actually created and mailed two versions of the invitation – each containing unique wording for the ceremony, reception, and travel information.

The place-setting menus and other day-of papers were designed to reflect the style and motifs we used on Mackenzie and Billy’s wedding invitations.  We enjoyed working with the RW Events styling team to create escort cards that could be strung along their vintage painted shutters.  We love collaborating with amazing other wedding pros to achieve results as stunning as this escort card display!

Mackenzie and Billy’s Bella Collina wedding was super adorable and executed flawlessly by Blush by Brandee GaarRW Events incorporated some amazing vintage vignettes – one of our favorites being the lemonade stand.  Lee James Floral Designs did a stunning job with the ceremony and reception florals – we especially love Mackenzie’s beautiful bouquet!  Two Sweets Bake Shop created an incredible and extensive dessert buffet (including amazing and unparalled Krispy Kreme Bread Puddings).

Dana and Justin’s Grand Bohemian Hotel wedding, planned by Weddings in the City, was classically glamorous and ultra-romantic.  The bride’s gown and chapel veil were absolute show stoppers! We gathered inspiration from Dana’s grace and the couple’s chic style when we created their invitation, escort cards, and table cards, and signage. Their nuptials, captured beautifully by Scott Craig Photography, seem absolutely timeless.

We created a folding invitation for Dana and Justin with a champagne exterior foiled in shiny gold and accented with light peach Swarovski crystals. The interior of the folder was blush pink printed with a light pink custom micro-floral pattern. Their invitation was die-cut and their enclosures were contained within a custom-printed enclosure band with die-cut monogram. Their escort cards were printed onto blush pink and accented with a single crystal to create a colorful, but still soft, display.

Dana chose table names based on Italian cities – the country of her heritage – which we then printed in an elegant script and die-cut into shape. We also created a number of signs for the couple to help carry their wedding branding throughout their event – we foiled their “Mr. and Mrs.” sweetheart table sign, created signature drink signs for the bar, and a guest book sign for their very special framed photograph guest book.

A huge thanks to the talented vendors who were a part of this special day:

Event Industry marketing by Beat Creative, ribbon cutting

Last month we had the pleasure of creating designs for the Event Industry Marketing by BeatCreative’s ribbon cutting ceremony. Christy from Anna Christine Events coordinated this exciting office grand opening event for our friend and colleague, Michelle. Bright, cheerful pops of hot pink and orange were included in every aspect of this event from the invitations to the delicious dessert table.

As a part of the ribbon cutting ceremony, guests took turns signing the ribbon before Michelle cut it in half with her giant scissors. To add to the excitement, confetti cannons filled with orange and pink paper shot into the sky and guests released balloons into the wind. The remainder of the event was spent socializing, and enjoying the amazing catering, like the nitrogen ice cream food truck from Three 2 Oh!

The invitation was the first design we created for Michelle, and became the theme for me to use on the additional paper goods. We were sure to include the “B” logo on all of the stationery because branding is particularly important to this client! Descriptive menu cards were placed on the dessert, food, and drink tables. Foodie Catering provided gourmet watermelon salad, chicken tacos, and Asian meatballs; while Two Sweets Bake Shop and Party Flavors delivered sweet treats for the dessert table.

You’ve heard of the “first look” when a couple sees each other for the first time before their ceremony.  Well, here’s a “first look” of a couple seeing their dessert buffet, created by the amazing Two Sweets Bake Shop, for the first time prior to their reception.  Barb and Steve were married at the jaw-dropping Grand Bohemian Hotel, and I do believe their faces in the photos say it all!  This is why we love working with Two Sweets–to create custom signage and buffet tags for their incredible dessert displays–because the reaction is priceless.

It was a moment that Barb can now relive forever thanks to Castaldo Studios, who did an amazing job capturing every sweet moment from this wedding reception! All of the details really made this buffet into a show-stopper: from the sumptuous floral designs by Bluegrass Chic, to the wine barrels and wooden tables from A Chair Affair, to the gorgeous petite cake by The Sugar Suite. Everything was expertly planned and pulled together beautifully by Swanky I Do’s, who helped the bride design the buffet with more that 22 sweet treats!

We designed the buffet tags and signage to reflect the antique style of Barb and Steve’s invitation.  We thought artwork that mimicked vintage perfume bottle labels would be a perfect fit for such an elegant vintage display.  We printed these pieces on creamy paper in a sepia tone, and then layered them onto bronze tent cards.

Congrats to Barb and Steve and best wishes for a wonderful life together!  And thank you to Two Sweets Bake Shop for having us create these custom pieces for such a lovely couple!

Amanda and Brett’s rustic March wedding was beautifully charming! The bride and groom said “I Do” at Amanda’s parents’ Winter Park home, which was transformed into a dream garden.  Amanda had a fantastic vision of creating a “farmer’s market” in the backyard of her childhood home.  When the utterly amazing Christy Subler of Anna Christine Events started explaining their concept and the plan for their wedding day, I don’t think I could have been more excited!  Amanda wanted to spotlight natural goodness of all kinds, from earth-grown goodies to the little creatures that you find hanging around gardens, like birds, caterpillars, snails, and grasshoppers (we even had a conversation about earthworms!).  All of the paper goods that we created for their wedding were loaded with botanical-style fruits and vegetables.

Anna Christine Events designed Amanda’s outdoor wonderland to be “straight from the farmers’ market” using wooden baskets, mason jars and tin pails filled with a bright assortment of flowers. The incredible florals, including bird-cage garden centerpieces bursting with lush English garden roses, succulents, and colorful flowers, and moss-covered risers were created by Flowers by Lesley.  Lesley always blows us away!

We started at the very beginning with Amanda and Brett by designing their postcard-style save-the-dates with engagement photo (shot in a vegetable garden, no less!) by Sarah Bray Photography and featuring delicious-looking strawberries.  Their custom pocketfold wedding invitation followed many months later, and was printed on a speckled creamy paper paired with custom moss-green lattice and featuring a folder of dark brown woodgrain-embossed paper.  My favorite part of Amanda and Brett’s invitation?  It’s a tie between the row of lettuces on their information panel and the mushrooms on their response postcard!

At the wedding we created a directional sign leading guests from the valet drop to the ceremony, and an aisle sign (“Love grows here”).  Guests were then handed gorgeous wedding programs framed with luscious flowers, fruits, and veggies, and introducing some garden creatures–snails, crickets, and sparrows!  After the ceremony, guests were directed to their tables with our seed-packet escort cards: kraft brown envelopes printed on the front with the name and artwork of a fruit, vegetable, or flower that designated their table assignment, and containing real packets of seeds inside.  The artwork for this display was time-consuming and challenging, but the payoff was huge!

Mini bright blue baskets of fresh strawberries awaited guests at their seats with favor tags thanking them “berry much” for attending.  The showstopper of our paper goods, I believe, was brainchild of Anna Christine Events. They asked us to create menu placemats containing Amanda and Brett’s vegan and vegetarian buffet station descriptions.  Arthur’s Catering pulled out all the stops with four (yes, four)  vegan/vegetarian stations: Tex-Mex, Indian, Italian, and Asian.  (Hilarious aside: Amanda’s dad jokingly threatened to hire a hot dog cart to appease the meat-eaters in attendance!).  And in true backyard-wedding style, Amanda, her mom, and other family members created a crazy-huge dessert display filled with 18 types of cakes, truffles, cupcakes, and cookies, with a crowning centerpiece of a vegan wedding cake by Baby Cakes.  We happily created the dessert buffet tags for this amazing display, as well as a pennant banner inviting guests to visit the treats tent, and other vignette signage (Amanda’s dad had a Cigar Grotto – another spectacular personal touch).

We fell in love with absolutely every detail from Amanda and Brett’s wedding, and it was a great honor to be a part of this incredible day.  We greatly enjoyed getting to know this couple!  Here’s their list of truly amazing vendors:

We recently had the opportunity to sponsor the paper goods for the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs open house. We worked with a fabulous team of vendors to produce a garden-fresh event inspired by the colorful works of Monet.  Lee Forest Design created stunning arrangements that looked as if they were created by the painter, and some of the famous pieces of art even decorated the cake! The event was perfectly planned and coordinated by Anna Christine Events and Bumby Photography, as always, did an outstanding job capturing all of the details of this floral-filled evening.

Our menus and place cards for the display table were backed with fresh garden green stock and printed with lavender ink. Garlands of purple flowers framed all of our paper goods. In addition to the display table pieces, we created the graphic for the e-vite, food and beverage signage, a sign listing the sponsors, and coordinating rack cards for FFGC.

{Real Wedding} Donna and Richard's Valentine's Day Wedding

DonnaandRichCov

Donna and Richard promised each other forever on a day meant for lovers. On February 14th, 2014, guests gathered for an outdoor ceremony at Harmony Golf Preserve. The glowing bride rode in on Misty Blue Acres Carriage Company‘s all-white carriage drawn by two horses. Her warm smile greeted guests on the way to meet her prince. The elegant backdrop of nature, as well as the decor, was caught effortlessly by Sunshine Photographics. We were honored to be a part of this beautiful wedding by creating the couple’s invitations and paper goods.

DonnaandRichardWinebox
This wine box was lovingly made by Rich’s parents. As part of their wedding ceremony, the newlyweds placed a love note to each other in this time capsule to be encased for 5 years. However, if they have a trying time before 5 years, they can unlock the box and read the notes to each other over a glass of wine from the bottle housed within. How sweet and genuine!

DonnaandRichSuperHero.jpg

Another personal element was kept under wraps: the groom and his men broke all the rules by wearing superhero shirts under their button-downs.

DonnaandRichVows

DonnaandRichFlowerAsile

The happy couple made their way down a beautiful aisle of fiery-colored rose petals and blazed a path towards happiness in their new lives. The vibrant orange and pinks of Lee Forrest Design‘s floral work cut a striking contrast to the woodsy setting. Our soft pink ceremony programs featured a delicate floral-patterned border and crystal accent for a little tasteful “bling.”

DonnaandRichFlow

The fresh floral continued to their reception and romantic colors. The simple elegance of the decor was carried out through the classic centerpieces, traditional-but-modern (and delicious-looking) cake by Cut the Cake, and our cream and coral paper goods. We used an elegant script throughout the signage, including on the custom card box sign.

The couple’s chair backs were adorned with our custom signs that read “His Beloved” and “Her Beloved:” a reminder of their love and excitement to everyone who passed their seats. We were pleased to provide a creative combination of escort cards and favor tags. The favor was a slice of a traditional Jamaican celebratory rum cake. (The kids got brownies instead!) Our escort cards, printed with each guest’s name and table name, were attached by a coral-colored ribbon and a delicate charm of intertwined hearts.

Alana and Jonathan shared a magical day planned by Anna Christine Events. The couple was married at Florida Southern College to honor the school where they met and fell in love. Their ceremony was followed by a brunch reception, and then they had a second reception later that night! Their Alice in Wonderland-inspired reception that evening at Rosen Shingle Creek was filled with with whimsical stationery and decor. We had the pleasure of designing all of the day-of stationery based on the invitation design by Invitations by Design. Brandy and Beau Photography and Sandra Johnson Photography captured beautiful images from the event.
